Dell and his wife Linda Morice established their northeast Tasmania wine venture in 2005 following the purchase of Golders Vineyard at Pipers Brook. The couple then spent the next 15 years together, developing their close-planted 4hectare site into one of the State’s most exciting and widely respected producers of cutting-edge, single-vineyard wines. It was a project born out of a fierce passion for detail and manual farming. Multiple clones, high-density planting, and frugal yields always with an eye on the future trajectory of the Sinapius Estate wines.
Vaughn Dell and Linda Morice purchased the former Golders Vineyard in 2005 (planted in 1994). More recent vineyard plantings include multiple clones of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as well as Grüner Veltliner, Gamay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Riesling. The newest plantings include Ribollo Gialla. The vineyard is close-planted, with most blocks planted at 10,250 – 11,000 vines per hectare. The wines are made with a minimalist approach: natural ferments, no additions, extended lees ageing and no fining and filtration.
