Pheobe Grant grew up with food and wine, her parents Simon Grant and Helen Murray own Beechworth Winery Traviarti. Her first vintage in 2020 chardonnay and Nebbiolo are the cornerstone varietals of Traviarti although Grant sources fruit from growers in the Macedon ranges and North East Victoria and has since added a Barbera and a deliciously varietal Savignan.
Being immersed in wine from such a young age with parents that are clearly passionate about food, wine and community Phoebe did formal vintages at Rutherglen Estates with Marc Scalzo while helping Chris Catlow at Sentio and Peter Graham at Domenica.
Phoebes first release in 2020 a chardonnay was with fruit sourced from Cope-Williams in Romsey. Vintage 2021 saw a barbera added with fruit coming from the King Valley. Grant knows the King Valley well visiting vineyards with her father Simon who pre-Traviarti worked in the wine industry. Schooled in Beechworth, Pheobe went to school with the children of the growers she buys fruit from. Certainly, this deep personal connection sets Phoebe apart.
Pheobe is at the beginning of an exciting journey, her latest releases reveal great purity and texture. Nature of the Beast is an addition to favourites at Bacash that we find a connection to through wine making, place and story.
